Somchai Wongsawat, gentle tyrant, ex-judge, brother-in-law of Thaksin , husband of tough Yaowapa Wongsawat, the youngest sister of Thaksin Shinawatra.

He ordered the police to brutally attack peaceful PAD 's rally around the House of Parliament just for his cabinet and MPs to get in an obligatory policy debate in the buildings. Eventually, he managed to successfully declare his administrative policy while the people bled and lost their limbs outside around the buildings.

The police special execution squadron "Arintharaj" methodically aimed tear gas canisters directly into the protestors, thus causing serious injuries more than eyes irritation. Hand grenades M26 were fired from M79 launchers to cause blast injuries, thus either fatality and lost of limbs. Three were killed. Four lost their limbs. More than 400 were injured.

Ramathibodhi University Hospital says Angkana died because of perforations in the heart, the lungs, and the stomach. There was an open wound of 40 cm size deep into the rib cage on the left. The force which caused the injury was equivalent to a fall from a three-storey height. Definitely, the injuries were not from a tear gas canister, no matter how close to the launcher. Tear gas shot would not cause avulsion of a limb either.

Associate Prof. Dr.Than Supatrapan, the Director of Ramathibodhi University Hospital and Assistant Prof. Dr.Wichan Peawnim, Head of the Forensic Medicine, Pathology Department, concluded the autopsy findings of Angkana that there was a 40-cm large wound on the left side of the chest extending to the left arm deep into the ribs. The wound was caused by external explosive force from outside of the body. No shrapnels were found. There was blood in the left pleural cavity and a severe lung contusion. There were lacerations of the heart, the lungs and the stomach. The left arm was broken. The upper arm flesh was avulsed. There were high-heat-burnt patchy areas. The cause of death was from the large wound, lacerations of the heart and a lot of bleeding of the lungs.
The unique features of the wound revealed the possible cause of a high velocity plus high heat solid object. Moreover, there was some soot deposit on the underwear and some burnt spots. The soot was sent to the police for further investigations.

Follow-up on Forensic Examinations

The physicians who treated the vicitims revealed the wounds were very severe. Some had shrapnels, burnt areas and soot. Some legs lost half of the flesh. They were unlikely to be caused by tear gas canisters.

On October 9, at Chulalongkorn University Hospital, several doctors from various hospitals which were treating the victims from the police's raid on PAD's rally outside the House of Parliament buildings held a seminar and a press conference. Dr.Achariya Sarovat from Ramathibodee University Hospital said the incidence was the worst so far. There were a lot of victims. Vachira University Hospital was the nearest had the most admissions of several hundreds and Chulalongkorn University Hospital, despite being the furthermost, received ten victims.

The patients who needed amputations of the legs were likely to be hit by tear gas canisters. The injuries were too serious. There were soots contamination in the wounds which do not suggest makeshift weapons. The patients would need several more operations later.

Dr.Achariya showed the photos of the victims coming to Ramathibodee including a badly traumatized foot, an avulsed thigh, an open wound in a leg showing the broken shin bone, a rubber-bullet gunshot wound, a mid-teen girl patient, a patient with severe blow to the face, Angkana's fatal wound on the chest, her lacerated lungs, spleen and perforated heart, a severely lacerated foot. Most of the wounds had common features of long burnt areas in triangular fashions.

Dr.Ratplee Parkart, from Chulalongkorn Hospital, said there always were soot and rubber shrapnels found in the victims' wounds. Therefore, they were unlikely to be tear gas canisters which are the causes of such injuries.

Roongthiwa's Serious Injury

Roongthiwa Thartniyom, a PAD woman victim of the police shot, is still in the ICU with a very bleak prospect. She has a husband and two young children which are praying for her.

She got a severe blast injury to the left side of the head. The skull is shattered. There was some bleeding inside the skull. Some brain tissue was lost. The left eyeball ruptured and dislodged from the eye socket. She already had three major operations and at best if she could survive she would be severely crippled permanently bed-bound and left blind.
