Physician's Press Release on the Patient's Injuries The physicians who treated the vicitims revealed the wounds were very severe. Some had shrapnels, burnt areas and soot. Some legs lost half of the flesh. They were unlikely to be caused by tear gas canisters. On October 9, at Chulalongkorn University Hospital, several doctors from various hospitals which were treating the victims from the police's raid on PAD's rally outside the House of Parliament buildings held a seminar and a press conference. Dr.Achariya Sarovat from Ramathibodee University Hospital said the incidence was the worst so far. There were a lot of victims. Vachira University Hospital was the nearest had the most admissions of several hundreds and Chulalongkorn University Hospital, despite being the furthermost, received ten victims. The patients who needed amputations of the legs were likely to be hit by tear gas canisters. The injuries were too serious. There were soots contamination in the wounds which do not suggest makeshift weapons. The patients would need several more operations later. Dr.Achariya showed the photos of the victims coming to Ramathibodee including a badly traumatized foot, an avulsed thigh, an open wound in a leg showing the broken shin bone, a rubber-bullet gunshot wound, a mid-teen girl patient, a patient with severe blow to the face, Angkana's fatal wound on the chest, her lacerated lungs, spleen and perforated heart, a severely lacerated foot. Most of the wounds had common features of long burnt areas in triangular fashions. Dr.Ratplee Parkart, from Chulalongkorn Hospital, said there always were soot and rubber shrapnels found in the victims' wounds. Therefore, they were unlikely to be tear gas canisters which are the causes of such injuries. Roongthiwa's Serious InjuryRoongthiwa Thartniyom, a PAD woman victim of the police shot, is still in the ICU with a very bleak prospect. She has a husband and two young children which are praying for her. She got a severe blast injury to the left side of the head. The skull is shattered. There was some bleeding inside the skull.
